Involving employees in continuous process improvement through skills development, fostering their creativity and actively involving them in improvement processes, conveying management’s commitment.

The management aims to make Prefabricados Formex the Spanish benchmark in the manufacture of structural solutions with very high-performance fiber-reinforced concrete, representing a technological and competitive leap of great relevance for the rest of the sectors and industries it serves.

SUSTAINABLE
COMMITMENT

Prefabricados Formex® was create to transform the precast concrete industry into a more sustainable one, with the commitment that our products meet the following requirements:

Reduction in natural resource consumption by between 40% and 75% compared to conventional concrete.

Increased service life beyond 100 years

Reduction in transportation, installation and maintenance cost for structures

Prefabricados Formex® has a team of researchers focused on continuous improvement of the material with the goal of reducing environmental impact by promoting the use of local, low-carbon materials.

Prefabricados Formex® guarantees that all raw materials used in manufacturing are 100% made in Europe.

“We want to contribute to Europe’s goal of climate neutrality by 2050 by investing in UHPC as a key material for the development of new structural systems, both for the primary aquaculture sector and the industrial marine renewable energy sector, to minimize operational and environmental cost.”

Hugo Coll

“Reducing the environmental impact of our Formex®” material, while maintaining its excellent strength and durability, is a constant goal in supply chain management and innovation. We are committed to the valorization of industrial byproducts and the use of local products to achieve a 50% reduction in Global Warming Potential”

INPYME-2025-820:

AID TO SUPPORT REINDUSTRIALIZATION INVESTMENTS MADE BY SMEs IN VARIOUD INDUSTRIAL SECTORS IN THE VALENCIAN COMMUNITY (INPYME 2025).

Total budget: 361.273,35 €.
Amount subsidized by the Generalitat Valenciana, Ministry of Innovation, Industry, Commerce and Tourism: 180.636,67 €.
Execution period: 1 de enero de 2025 a 4 de noviembre de 2025.

The project aims to update part of the PREFABRICADOS FORMEX facilities, modernizing more than 1,400m2 of the company’s production area for more efficient and sustainable production.

Adaptation of the Production Process for the Low-Carbon Footprint Manufacturing of Formex®:

PROCESS INNOVATION Program
(INNOVAProC-CV) 2023 – 2ª Call

This project has been funded by IVACE (Spanish Institute of Carpentry and Architectural Engineering) and the European Union through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), with 45% of the total eligible cost of 81.353,45 €.

The project aims to adapt the Formex Precast production process to manufacture a new, more sustainable ultra-high-performance concrete (UHPC): Formex®ECO. This technological evolution will reduce the material’s carbon footprint by nearly 30% through the use of industrial byproducts and recycled materials, such as certain pozzolands and fibers from recycled tires. Furthermore, part of the manufacturing process will be automated, improving efficiency and reducing waste. The project is aligned with the principles of the circular economy and environmental sustainability, reinforcing the company’s commitment to responsible innovation and European standards regarding environmental impact.

Project awarded in 2022 finances the research and development of an eco-UHPC based on Formex® technology for use in substructures of offshore floating solar energy collection systems.

The “Smartincs” project is part of the Marie Sklodowska-Cuie ITN program, which, through a total of 22 institutions and companies and 15 research fellows, aims to implement life-cycle thinking and consider the durability of structures through self-healing technologies. PREFFOR makes its laboratory facilities available to the project for testing and evaluating the behavior of micro-cracked UHPC beams in an aggressive environment.

The OpenMode innovation project enabled the development of a mussel farming system for semi-open waters that allows for long-distance transport and combines the unidirectional operation of the “long-line” farming system to adapt to waves and the intensive farming of traditional rafts. This project, which ran from 2019 to 2021, enabled the launch of the Formex® Modular Raft, now available for sale, and the first floating perimeter pontoon systems in Formex® for floating solar energy collection systems in reservoirs.

The “Reshealience” project was a H2020 research and innovation project that ran from 2018 to 2022, involving a total of 13 institutions and companies. The project developed and studied methods for assessing the durability of UHPC in harsh environments and cracking, developing methodologies for calculating service life and assessing cracking and self-healing phenomena.

The Selmus innovation project (link to the project described in RDC) of the H2020 program executed between 2016-2017 was the precursor to the industrialization of the floating platform (called “raft”) system for mussel farming whose utility model is in the hands of RDC, and which is currently exploited with PREFFOR which already has more than 35 floating installations, of its models Batea Formex® Mixta.
