FLOATING PHOTOVOLTAIC INSTALLATION IN ALQUEVA
On July 15, 2022, the largest European floating solar plant to date on an artificial reservoir was inaugurated, with an installed capacity of 5 MWp. This technological challenge, promoted by EDP, incorporates a new technological development, patented by Isigenere y Research & Development Concretes (RDC), which consists of perimeter stiffening of the complex using perimeter pontoons manufactured with Formex® technology. This technology frames, protect and reduces the number of anchors required to stabilize the complex that forms the interior solar plant built with the Isifloating system.
The engineering firms that developed and patented this innovative perimeter stiffening system opted for Formex® technology for two fundamental reasons:

Minimal maintenance costs
Reduced thickness and significant weight reduction, much lower than conventional solutions
High buoyancy with minimal draft, reducing hydrodynamic stress and the number of anchorings.
Optimized transport due to its reduced weight and size
The installation was completed with a Formex pontoon made up of 5 prefabricated units, designed by RDC, connected by a galvanized metal beam, designed by Isigenere, to cover a total are of 12.30 x 6.50 m with a maximum total flotation capacity of 48 Tons.
This unique project manages to take a full advantage of the qualities of Formex® becoming the world’s first application of UHPC in a commercial floating solar power plant, demonstrating the technical feasibility of the perimeter stiffening system patented by Isigenere and RDC.
PREFABRICATED
POOL IN CHIVA
This exclusive prefabricated pool, made entirely of Formex® conceived by the architects of the prefabricated housing company INHAUS and designed by the team of civil engineers at Research & Development Concretes, was sucessfully installed in September 2021.
The pool functions as a cantilever beam embedded in a set of vertical walls that serve as a foundation to span a 7.80 m overhang. The interior of the pool includes a 2.00 m wide x 1.25 m high bathing space, with a water overflowing laterally into an exterior gutter that collects excess water and pumps it back into the pool.
The pool is made up of a total of five interconnected, lightweight ribbed panels and a water collection gutter with the appropriate slope for easy drainage. All water and electrical installations are included inside. The total weight of the prefabricated elements is 15 tons of Formex®, which must withstand the 30 tons of water inside.

The Formex® GF160 Staricase designs can be either straight or curved, which determines the manufacturing system. The possibility of supports along its length determines its thickness and slenderness. Prefabricados Formex® will always seek the solution that offers the greatest presence to the architectural element, seeking minimal thicknesses and hidden supports.
The Formex® GF160 Staircase is design for new-build buildings and homes. The home contractor will be responsible for assembly, with the necessary technical assistance from Prefabricados Formex engineering team at all times.
